Girl Scouts at the .......

Girl Scout Troop 3036 met at the arboretum on November 8, 2006, to learn how to make wreaths and swags. Master Gardener Alice Marchande demonstrated methods for making swags as well as wreaths. Hand making bows was also demonstrated.

Girl Scouts will work with Master Gardeners this season making wreaths and swags for sale in the community. All proceeds from the sale will be used to assist the troop on their planned trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City in the Summer of 2007.

Scout leaders MaryBeth Kokjohn and Lisa Chapman observed the learning process.

Missionaries of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, who have volunteered once a week for many months at the Arboretum created an educational aide for the Scouts. Each of the thirteen conifers used in the wreaths and swags has been identified "Education is important for children. Nowadays people need to learn more about trees, so this is a great opportunity for the Scouts to see the diversity in the trees they are using in their project, " explained the elders.
