Opportunities for volunteering at the Arboretum are available for gardeners in the butterfly, country, herb, indoor, rock, rose, waterfall and wildflower gardens. Because we want gardens of display quality, volunteers work in teams for each of the collections, spending one to two hours a week on the care of "their" garden. When experts are on the grounds, volunteers are invited to tour with the guests and learn more about each of the gardens. Volunteers also lead tours, do filing, catalogue books, accession plants, update our web page, help children with crafts, answer the phone as plant partners ("How do I get rid of moles?"), teach classes (Herbs for Fun and Flavor), work with staff on maintenance and assist at special events. Flexible hours and the opportunity to work with others with the same interest seem to be the reasons for the success of our volunteer program. For more information about volunteering, call 242-4771 or download a volunteer data sheet.
